Een weekend lang samen schetsen:
- 20 juni in het centrum van Den Haag
- 21 juni aan de boulevard van Scheveningen

Samen met het lokale team Usk Den Haag & Delft organiseren we een National Sketch Weekend in Den Haag, precies op tijd voor het begin van de zomer.
Den Haag is een kosmopolitische stad, de enige grote stad aan zee en tevens de hoofdstad van de provincie Zuid-Holland. Den Haag is een belangrijke historische en politieke stad voor Nederland: het is de woonplaats van het koninklijk huis en de bestuurlijke hoofdstad van het land. De stad herbergt talloze locaties die het schetsen waard zijn, zoals Paleis Noordeinde en de zetel van de Nederlandse regering, het bekende Binnenhof, waarvan de ingewikkelde architectuur weerspiegeld wordt in de aangrenzende vijver, de Hofvijver. Samen met de moderne ministeriële gebouwen op de achtergrond vormt dit de iconische skyline van Den Haag. Een uitzicht dat je zeker in je schetsboek wilt vastleggen, terwijl je de drukte observeert van de lopende renovatiewerken.

Den Haag is ook een kuststad, met het voormalige vissersstadje Scheveningen, nu een populair strand voor inwoners en bezoekers van Den Haag. Wandelend over het uitgestrekte zandstrand zal geen Urban Sketcher de drang kunnen weerstaan om iconische gebouwen te schetsen, zoals de Pier met zijn opvallende reuzenrad, de Scheveningse Haven, Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus en de speelse beelden op de Boulevard bij het museum Beelden aan Zee.
Tot slot is Den Haag ook een levendige internationale stad, waar talloze internationale organisaties gevestigd zijn, zoals het Internationaal Gerechtshof in het Vredespaleis, dat de stad de bijnaam “Stad van Vrede en Recht” heeft gegeven. Veel internationale burgers wonen en werken in Den Haag, en je hoort er vaak verschillende talen op straat. Deze multiculturaliteit weerspiegelt zich in het stadslandschap, met name in het centrum. Daar kun je in een paar stappen van Chinatown met zijn kleurrijke poort naar de indrukwekkende Nieuwe Kerk en zijn tuin (ideaal om je schetskrukje neer te zetten), en langs het Rabbijn Maarsenplein, waar monumenten herinneren aan de deportatie van de Joodse bevolking uit deze buurt tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Voor dit weekend moet je je inschrijven – maar alleen voor de zaterdag. Dat kan vanaf vrijdag 22 mei 2026 om 19.00 uur.
Er zijn voor zaterdag 300 tickets beschikbaar via Eventbrite – volg deze link.
Let op: kom je alleen op zondag dan heb je geen ticket via Eventbrite nodig, deze dag is vrij toegankelijk.

Programma
Vrijdag 19 juni
Wil je op vrijdag al wat schetsen, dan is het plein bij de Nieuwe Kerk een mooie optie om dit weekend te starten en medetekenaars alvast te ontmoeten. Dit tekenmoment wordt niet door ons georganiseerd.
Zaterdag 20 juni – Den Haag
In Den Haag starten we de dag bij Luden aan het Plein om 11.00 uur. Dit is op ca 6 minuten lopen vanaf het station Den Haag CS. Zij zullen koffie en thee aan ons serveren.
- 10.45 – Inloop. We ontvangen jullie graag bij Luden aan het Plein
- 11.00 – Informatie over deze dag
Aansluitend: tekenen op eigen gelegenheid in de stad.
We hebben 4 posten met leuke uitdagingen. - 16.30 – Show & Tell en groepsfoto: in Paleistuin Noordeinde (bij het water)
- 19.00 – 19.30 Avond tekenen op het Plein bij Luden met Urban Sketchers Den Haag and Delft. Tip: neem je oranje kleurpotlood mee: het Nederlands elftal speelt een WK wedstrijd!
Posten op zaterdag
Meerdere instructeurs hebben ook voor dit weekend weer hun uiterste best gedaan om interessante uitdagingen te bedenken. Zowel in Den Haag als in Scheveningen hebben we 5 posten.
Post 1 — Bianca Berndsen (Studio LEFF): Teken niet alles — teken het verhaal
Een stad zit vol prikkels: gebouwen, mensen, borden, fietsen, schaduwen, drukte. Waar begin je? Bij Bianca leer je juist níet alles te tekenen. Ze laat je zien hoe je dat ene element kiest dat de sfeer van de plek vat. Schets het ding dat naar de stad smaakt — en laat de rest los. Na deze post kijk je met andere ogen naar wat je wél tekent.

Post 2 — Chantal Geelhoed (Caran d’Ache, tot 13:30!): Twee lagen, één schets
Werk in twee lagen en ontdek het contrast tussen los en precies. Je begint met een snelle, waterige basis vol sfeer en beweging, en werkt daarna verder met kleurpotloden voor details, lijnen en accenten. Zo ontstaat stap voor stap jouw eigen schets van Den Haag. Het samenspel tussen de losse onderlaag en de strakke bovenlaag geeft je tekening diepte en karakter.
Post 3 — Julia Henze (Winsor & Newton samen met Gerstaecker): Los en speels schetsen met aquarel
Heb je het gevoel dat aquarel ingewikkelder is dan het hoeft te zijn? Julia laat zien dat het ook anders kan. Tijdens deze demo schets je op een losse, directe manier tussen de mooie gebouwen van Den Haag. Geen perfecte plaatjes, maar snelle, levendige schetsen vol sfeer en karakter. Je werkt met aquarel en fineliners en ontdekt hoe weinig je nodig hebt voor een pakkend resultaat.
Post 4 — Nicky Saliha (Faber-Castell): Groene doorkijkjes en verborgen architectuur
Zoek een plek waar groen, water en architectuur elkaar ontmoeten. Je werkt met markers en een waterpenseel om sfeer en reflecties te creëren. Daarna accentueer je slechts enkele details met een fineliner om de verborgen architectuur zichtbaar te maken. Omdat we met water werken, gebruiken we aquarelpapier — dat neem ik mee zodat je alles kunt uitproberen. Houd onze website in de gaten voor de tutorial die enkele dagen voor het Sketch Weekend zal verschijnen!
Meer dan een post: Artifac!
Op 20 juni is Artifac, de winkel van Gerstaecker in Den Haag, de aangewezen plek om even te bezoeken. Je kunt hier deze dag meerdere leuke dingen doen:
- Speciaal voor alle USk-ers zijn er deze dag enkele interessante aanbiedingen te vinden. Als je je als klant registreert ontvang je een leuke goodiebag en bij aankopen vanaf €50,- en aankopen vanaf €100,- krijgen USk-ers nog meer leuke kadootjes.
- Bezoek post 3 met Julia Henze en probeer naast de tips & tricks en schetsopdracht die Julia zal geven ook zelf materialen uit.
- Rust even uit onder het genot van een verkoelend drankje verzorgd door Gerstaecker en teken de mooie pandjes aan de gracht van de Noordwal.
- Doe mee aan de tekenwedstrijd, teken de winkel van Artifac en maak kans op enkele mooie prijzen!
- En last but not least: haal je dagstempel van de USK National Sketchday in de winkel!
Tekenwedstrijd
Speciaal voor de USK National Sketchday in Den Haag heeft Gerstaecker een leuke tekenwedstrijd uitgeschreven, waarbij enkele leuke prijzen te winnen zijn.
Meedoen kan heel simpel:
- Maak een USk tekening of schildering van de gele gevel van Artifac, de Gerstaecker winkel in Den Haag.
- Post deze op 20 juni op Instagram en tag deze met @Gerstaecker_nl. Deelname kan tot ongeveer15.00 uur op 20 juni.
- Onder de deelnemers worden er 3 prijswinnaars gekozen, waarbij er vooral wordt gelet op originaliteit en materiaalgebruik. De prijzen worden uitgereikt bij de Show & Tell aan het einde van de dag in de Paleistuinen.
Programma zondag 21 juni: Scheveningen
Scheveningen is goed te bereiken met de tram vanuit Den Haag (tram 1 of 9).
Neem tram 1 om bij de startlocatie te komen, halte Scheveningse slag/Beelden aan Zee.
De locatie bevindt zich niet bij het museum (deze is helaas deze periode gesloten), maar bij de beelden op de boulevard.
- Tussen 10.00 – 11.30 is er vrije inloop. Voor deze dag is geen ticket nodig!

Posten op zondag
Post 1 — Julia Henze (Winsor & Newton): Los en speels schetsen — nu aan zee
Julia gebruikt dezelfde technieken als in Den Haag, maar nu ga je aan de slag met strand, zee en boulevard. Het Kurhaus mag natuurlijk ook, maar is zeker niet verplicht. Dezelfde aanpak, maar een totaal andere sfeer — en juist dat maakt het zo leuk. Ontdek hoe je met aquarel en fineliners de energie van de kust vangt.
Post 2 — Chantal Geelhoed (Caran d’Ache), tot 13:30: Twee lagen, één schets — nu aan de kust
Ook in Scheveningen werk je in twee lagen: eerst een losse, waterige basis voor sfeer en beweging, daarna kleurpotloden voor details en accenten. Maar waar je in Den Haag stadse lijnen en gevels vastlegde, vang je hier het licht op zee, de weidsheid van het strand en de contouren van de boulevard. Dezelfde techniek, een heel ander verhaal.
Post 3 — ShiSoH (Sohye SHIN met materialen van Royal Talens): Spelen met inkt en wattenstaafjes
Bij ShiSoH duik je met inkt en een onverwacht gereedschap — het wattenstaafje — direct het papier op. Je oefent met de grilligheid van het materiaal en omarmt het onvoorspelbare. Geen strakke lijnen, wel de bevredigende chaos van loslaten. Een post die je leert dat controle loslaten juist betere tekeningen oplevert.
Post 4 — Nicky Saliha (Faber-Castell): Groot vs. klein — sculptuur als hoofdpersoon
Kies één sculptuur als hoofdonderwerp en maak het beeld groter dan zijn omgeving. Je werkt met dual markers om krachtige contrasten tussen licht en schaduw neer te zetten. Gebruik grote donkere vlakken en laat het witte papier het felle zonlicht verbeelden. Ook voor deze opdracht komt er een tutorial op onze website!
Post 5 — Marlon Doomen (Royal Talens): Snelle schetsen op het strand
Op het strand valt van alles te tekenen: meeuwen, wandelaars, honden, zonnende mensen — noem maar op! Bij Marlon ga je aan de slag met brushpens en kleurpotlood. Ze laat je zien hoe je daarmee snelle, losse tekeningen maakt die de sfeer van het strand in een paar streken vangen.

Together with the local team Urban Sketchers Den Haag & Delft, we are delighted to organise a National Sketch Weekend in The Hague, right on time for the beginning of Summer.
Located on the West Coast of the South Holland region, The Hague is a unique and cosmopolitan city.
The Hague is a significant historical and political city for the Netherlands: home of the royal family and administrative capital of the country, the city hosts many sketch-worthy locations, including the Noordeinde Palace and the seat of the Dutch Parliament, the well-known Binnenhof, whose intricate architecture is reflected in the adjacent pond, the Hofvijver. Together with the modern Ministry buildings as a background, it forms the iconic skyline of The Hague. A view you need to put in your sketchbook, as you observe the busy activity due to the ongoing renovation works.

The Hague is also a coastal city, with the former fishermen’s neighbourhood, Scheveningen, now a popular beach venue for The Hague inhabitants and visitors. Walking along the vast sand beach, the strolling Urban Sketcher will not resist sketching iconic buildings, including the Pier and its landmark ferris wheel, the Scheveningen Harbour, Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus, and the playful sculptures near Beelden aan Zee museum.
Finally, The Hague is also a vibrant international city, home to several international organisations, such as the International Court of Justice hosted at the Peace Palace, which gave to the city its name of “city of peace and justice”. Many internationals live and work in The Hague, and you will often hear different languages on the streets. This multiculturalism is reflected in the urban landscape, in particular in the city centre. There, a few steps can bring you from Chinatown and its colourful gate, to the impressive Nieuwe Kerk and its garden (ideal to unfold your sketching stool), passing through the Rabbijn Maarsenplein where monuments commemorate the deportation of the neighbourhood’s Jewish population during WWII.

If you would like to do some sketching on Friday already, the square near the New Church is a great place to start the weekend and meet fellow sketchers. This sketching session is not organized by us.
Saturday, June 20 – The Hague
In The Hague, we will start the day at Luden on Plein at 11:00 AM. It is about a 6-minute walk from the station. They will serve us coffee and tea.
- 10:45 AM – Arrival and welcome at Luden on Plein
- 11:00 AM – Information about the day
Afterwards: sketching independently around the city.
We have 4 posts with fun challenges. - 4:30 PM – Show & Tell and group photo in the Palace Garden Noordeinde (by the water)
- 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM Evening sketching at Plein near Luden with Urban Sketchers Den Haag and Urban Sketchers Delft.
Tip: bring your orange colored pencil — the Dutch national football team will be playing a World Cup match!
Posts on Saturday
Several instructors have once again done their very best to come up with interesting challenges for this weekend. Both in The Hague and in Scheveningen, we will have 5 stations.
Post 1 — Bianca Berndsen (Studio LEFF): Don’t sketch everything — sketch the story
A city is full of stimuli: buildings, people, signs, bicycles, shadows, and crowds. Where do you begin? With Bianca, you will learn specifically not to sketch everything. She will show you how to choose that one element that captures the atmosphere of a place. Sketch the thing that gives the city its flavor — and let the rest go. After this post, you will look differently at what you choose to sketch.
Post 2 — Chantal Geelhoed (Caran d’Ache, tot 13:30!): Two layers, one sketch
Work in two layers and discover the contrast between loose and precise. You start with a quick, watery base full of atmosphere and movement, and then continue with colored pencils for details, lines, and accents. Step by step, your own sketch of The Hague will come to life. The interplay between the loose underlayer and the refined top layer gives your sketch depth and character.
Post 3 — Julia Henze (Winsor & Newton together with Gerstaecker): Loose and playful sketching with watercolor
Do you feel that watercolor is more complicated than it needs to be? Julia will show you that there is another way. During this demo, you will sketch in a loose and direct style among the beautiful buildings of The Hague. No perfect pictures, but quick and lively sketches full of atmosphere and character. You will work with watercolor and fineliners and discover how little you need to create a striking result.
Post 4 — Nicky Saliha (Faber-Castell): Green views and hidden architecture
Find a spot where greenery, water, and architecture come together. You will work with markers and a water brush to create atmosphere and reflections. Afterwards, you will highlight only a few details with a fineliner to reveal the hidden architecture. Because we will be working with water, we will use watercolor paper — I will bring some so you can try everything out. Keep an eye on our website for the tutorial!
More than just a post: Artifac!
On June 20, Artifac, the Gerstaecker store in The Hague, is definitely worth a visit. There will be several fun activities for you to enjoy throughout the day:
- Specially for all USk participants, there will be several interesting offers available that day. If you register as a customer, you will receive a fun goodie bag, and with purchases over €50 and over €100, USk participants will receive even more fun gifts.
- Visit Station 3 with Julia Henze and, besides the tips, tricks, and sketch assignment she will provide, try out different materials yourself.
- Take a break with a refreshing drink provided by Gerstaecker and sketch the beautiful canal houses along the Noordwal.
- Join the sketch competition, draw the Artifac store, and get a chance to win some great prizes!
- And last but not least: collect your USK National Sketchday stamp in the store!
Sketch Competition
Especially for the USK National Sketchday in The Hague, Gerstaecker has organized a fun sketch competition with several great prizes to be won.
Participating is very simple:
- Create an Urban Sketchers drawing or painting of the yellow façade of Artifac, the Gerstaecker store in The Hague.
- Post your artwork on Instagram on June 20 and tag @Gerstaecker_nl. Entries can be submitted until 3:00 PM on June 20.
- Three winners will be selected from all participants, with special attention given to originality and use of materials. The prizes will be awarded during the Show & Tell at the end of the day in the Palace Gardens.
Sunday, June 21 – Scheveningen
Scheveningen is easy to reach by tram from The Hague (tram 1 or 9).
Take tram 1 to reach the starting location: Scheveningse Slag / Beelden aan Zee stop.
The location is not at the museum itself (unfortunately it is closed during this period), but near the sculptures on the boulevard.
- Between 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM there is open arrival.

Post 1 — Julia Henze (Winsor & Newton): Loose and playful sketching — now by the sea
Julia uses the same techniques as in The Hague, but this time you will work with the beach, sea, and boulevard. Of course, the Kurhaus can also be included, but it is certainly not required. The same approach, but with a completely different atmosphere — and that is exactly what makes it so much fun. Discover how to capture the energy of the coast with watercolor and fineliners.
Post 2 — Chantal Geelhoed (Caran d’Ache), tot 13:30: Two layers, one sketch — now by the coast
In Scheveningen, you will also work in two layers: first a loose, watery base to capture atmosphere and movement, followed by colored pencils for details and accents. But while in The Hague you captured urban lines and façades, here you will capture the light on the sea, the openness of the beach, and the outlines of the boulevard. The same technique, but a completely different story.
Post 3 — ShiSoH (Sohye SHIN with materials from Royal Talens): Playing with ink and cotton swabs
With ShiSoH, you will dive straight onto the paper using ink and an unexpected tool — the cotton swab. You will experiment with the unpredictability of the material and learn to embrace it. No precise lines, but the satisfying chaos of letting go. A post that teaches you that giving up control can actually lead to better sketches.International court of Justice Den Haag
Post 4 — Nicky Saliha (Faber-Castell): Big vs. small — sculpture as the main subject
Choose one sculpture as your main subject and make it larger than its surroundings. You will work with dual markers to create strong contrasts between light and shadow. Use large dark areas and let the white of the paper represent the bright sunlight. A tutorial for this assignment will also be available on our website!
Post 5 — Marlon Doomen (Royal Talens): Quick sketches on the beach
There is so much to sketch on the beach: seagulls, walkers, dogs, sunbathers — you name it! With Marlon, you will work with brush pens and colored pencils. She will show you how to create quick, loose sketches that capture the atmosphere of the beach in just a few strokes.
